Magic Kingdom opens New Fantasyland in Orlando

Walt Disney World's New Fantasyland officially opened in the Magic Kingdom on Thursday (December 6, 2012). The new Fantasyland area was built on what was once the site of the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea experience. This is the largest expansion project in the park’s 41-year history, doubling the size of the original Fantasyland. "It gives guests another level of immersion," chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, Tom Staggs said. "We have technology to play with that Walt DIsney didn't have." The Orlando area Disney theme park area blends classic Disney characters such as “Beauty and the Beast,” “Dumbo” and “The Little Mermaid” with the multimillion dollar expansion. Additionally, the New Fantasyland features two distinct sections: Enchanted Forest and Storybook Circus. There is also the Be Our Guest Restaurant that serves both beer and wine, making it the first eatery inside a Disney theme park to serve alcohol.
